Newborn photographs and the 'right' age to capture them
You have carried your baby for nine long months. Endured morning sickness, swollen feet, stiffness, aches and pains. You've monitored your food and drinks to give your baby the best start you can.
Mothering your baby began the day you found out you were pregnant! I can understand that you might not be ready to leave the house in the first week of bringing your new baby home.
Find out why it doesn't matter how young or 'old' your baby is for professional portraits - they are adorably sweet and can be photographed at ANY age or 'stage!
Here's what you need to know about the "Ages and Stages" of newborn and baby photography:
5 - 14 days old | This is the typical age of 'newborn' photography and the ideal time to capture sleepy, curly posed images of your new baby. At this age, your baby is still sleepy, and easily posed for those beautiful sweetly styled images you always see! Those tiny newborn details - their nose, eye, lips, finger and toes will start changing even in the next week or two - if you want their sweet newborn features to be photographed in those classic 'newborn' poses, it has to be done early! You'll need to plan ahead and book your session BEFORE your baby arrives.
14 days - 1 month old | Your baby is now a little bigger and responding much more readily to sound, touch and stimulation. They are not sleeping as much and they have changed a lot already! Most baby's will not curl and sleep like they did a few weeks ago, but who cares! There are still small and sweet, and the connection and bonding of family is beautiful to capture.
1 - 3 months old | Your baby may not sleep and pose like a newborn any more, and they may not have much to do but look at you and 'coo', but this stage is the most gorgeous time to capture smiles, personality and occasionally some interesting and funny facial expressions! Insight into your babies developing personality will mostly be the focus of your portraits at this stage.
